It has recently been reconditioned in an artisan workshop in Beijing with a natural look wood finish, and some distressed effects. The front of the piece features 6 highly decorative panels containing ornate floral artwork. Each panel depicts three lotus flowers, one of Buddhism’s most significant symbols. It is a symbol of blessings, enlightenment and mental purity. The lotus has its roots in mud, but blossoms into a beautiful flower. Throughout the mainframe of the piece, subtle flourishes have been applied in fine scrolling movements.
